What to Expect in this Course
This is a 100% online class, which means that there will not be any on-campus or face-to-face meetings. Examinations will be administered online and will require the use of a working camera.
This course will be available on Canvas beginning on the day that the class officially starts. Instructions for logging in to Canvas can be found here: https://coc.instructure.com
Our online class will include a combination of various graded assessments, which may include discussion boards, assignments (generally written essay style submissions), quizzes, and exams. The course is organized in modules, where each module covers approximately 3-5 chapters and includes each of these graded components. The Discussion Boards require a personal response to a question I pose to the class, as well as a response to another student. It encourages reading of the chapters ahead of time but is most heavily based on your own opinions and reflections. The assignments require more in-depth reading and understanding that is demonstrated in a well- organized and clearly written essay. There are times that the assignments may require other types of activities. Again, in order to really do well, you will need to read each chapter and use the practice quizzes that are provided to be best prepared. The details for each task is included in the syllabus and I will make it available to you no later than the Friday before classes begin so you can schedule accordingly. In some cases, I may have it available even earlier to you. If you have any questions regarding expectations, please let me know!!

Textbook Information
Textbook Title: Abnormal Psychology, Oltmanns & Emery; 9th Edition, 2019, Pearson Publishers.
Access to the REVEL platform is REQUIRED. The textbook for the course (listed below) is required as well, though there are various ways to gain access to it.
Exams are administered online with Proctorio, which is an extension through your internet browser that allows for integrity controls and requires the use of a video recording device while taking all exams. You will need to have a functioning video source that accurately records your behaviors during the exam. The camera may be a built-in part of the computer or an external device.
Other Relevant Course Information
It is the student's responsibility to drop the course through the college if warranted. However, the instructor reserves the right to drop any student if it is apparent that the student is no longer active in the course. If you miss the first discussion board post, or any two course requirements (discussion boards, assignments, or exams) in a row, YOU MAY BE DROPPED. The student should not assume that s/he will automatically be dropped from the course. This means that if you miss some assignments and are not dropped, you will likely earn an “F” or “FW” in the course.
If you are having problems with your internet connection and/or computer, it is your responsibility as the student to find an alternative means to complete your scheduled assignments (including quizzes, and discussion board posts) on time. It does happen once in a while, I understand (I have a server that will go nuts every once in a while). HOWEVER, what this means is that you should NEVER wait until the last minute to post anything because if there is a problem, you will not have the time to communicate with me or any time to remedy the situation.
