Introduction

This letter is to provide you with information that will help you decide if this class is for you (OnlineLive and In person). Students will join class live by using the Zoom platform or by coming to campus in person on the scheduled days at specific times weekly. The Zoom technology will allow students to join and participate in the classroom synchronously and remotely. The lab portion of this class is a separate course listed under Surv 101L and should be added to your schedule if choose to take this class.

Course Description

Surveying 101 presents basic concepts in land surveying, typical field practice, and
calculations. This includes but not limited to pacing, taping correction, stadia, topography maps, traverse calculations, equipment knowledge and equipment use.

What to Expect in this Course

Course materials and assignments for the lecture will be provided during class and/or posted in Canvas. You will be participating in class individually and sometimes in a group. You will have weekly assignments, quizzes and/or tests. You are responsible for the material and will be tested on your understanding of them.

This is not self-paced instruction. You should expect to spend about 8 hours per week working on this course in addition to the face-to-face lab and live lecture meetings. Your success in this class depends on your willingness to dedicate the time necessary to complete the course assignments.
 
It is important that you stay current, complete assignments in a timely manner, and visit the Canvas classroom often. Regular and active participation is an essential aspect of this course. Your full participation in this course will be necessary for you to be successful in this course.

Textbook Information

You will be provided a link on the first day of class to your free OER textbook or will be given the material necessary to accomplish the class assignments.

This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
