What to Expect in this Course

Students taking this course have the option of meeting in person (CCC-704) or through video conferencing (using both Canvas and Zoom). It is not self-paced instruction and meetings are required. You should expect to spend about 8 hours per week working on this course in addition to the class meetings. Your success in this class depends on your willingness to dedicate the time necessary to complete the course assignments. You are responsible for meeting all deadlines for homework, assignments, discussions, and other related course material. If you have any difficulties completing assignments or meeting deadlines, please notify me immediately so we can try to resolve the situation. It is important to note that it may not be possible to make up assignments.

Distance learning classes are in some ways more challenging than traditional on ground courses. It is imperative that each student has a good internet connection and access to a functioning computer. It is also important that each student understands how to access and navigate through Canvas (the online portal to all course information) and Zoom (the recorded lecture streaming service). Please visit https://coc.instructure.com/login/canvas and become familiar with this site. It is also critical for each student to login to Canvas routinely and be able to access their my.canyons.edu email account. All course correspondence and information regarding assignments, exams, etc will be conducted through the my.canyons.edu email system. For information on forwarding the my.canyons.edu email to an existing personal email account, visit http://www.canyons.edu/offices/admissions/studentemail.asp. All quizzes and the Final Exam will have time limits and will be given online.  Generally, no make ups will be allowed, however extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration.

Types of Assessments

Discussion Posts: Each week you will be required to participate in the online discussion boards. A different discussion topic will be given to you on Monday. You are required to submit your initial post by Thursday at midnight. Responses to two (2) other posts are due by Sunday at midnight. Your initial post is worth 20 points and each response is worth 5 points, for a total of 30 points possible per discussion. More instruction will be given with each discussion topic.

Quizzes: There will be 8 quizzes each worth 10 points. See Canvas for dates of all quizzes.

Exams: There is one cumulative final exam worth 100 points in the last week of class.
