Introduction

GTAW

Hello and welcome to the first class of three (112A) for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). My name is David Bell and I will be your professor for this course. This class is a hybrid and we will meet physically in the GTAW welding lab on campus in the evening and we will also have online lectures in the afternoons prior to the lab with a gap between lecture and lab to give people time to commute.

Course Description

The first of a three-part series including the fundamental theory and application of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Emphasizes safety procedures, use of GTAW equipment, and proper techniques in accordance with the American Welding Society SENSE Entry-Level welder program.

What to Expect in this Course

Each week we will have homework assignments that will be performed online either in Canvas or AWS Sense. We will also have lectures performed via Zoom. You will need Zoom installed on your device for the lecture. In addition to Zoom I would like everyone to at least have a microphone to be able to communicate with me in the Zoom meetings, a camera would be nice but is optional. The course will be provided via Canvas and if you need information on Canvas please look at this link from COC https://www.canyons.edu/academics/onlineeducation/studentsupport/canvasstudentguides.php

In addition to the lecture you will be assigned welding projects which will be completed in the welding lab at the Valencia campus, Towsley Hall Room 122, which is located just on the far end of the main welding lab which you enter in room TWSH-120.

Types of Assessments
