The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a short-term, part time, temporary position of Kitchen Facility Cleaner/Sanitizer in the Institute for Culinary Education (iCUE) facility on the Valencia Campus.

College of the Canyons is part of the Santa Clarita Community College District and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), enrolling approximately 32,000 students each academic year. "BIG PICTURE" RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the supervision of the iCUE management staff, performs specific kitchen cleaning duties related to assigned equipment and facilities, following a predetermined schedule.  The work schedule is based on iCUE event timelines and varies depending on the week’s agenda (averaging approximately 19-hours per week). Candidates should demonstrate a record of professional/courteous customer service and display comfort working with the College Management, Faculty Members and Classified Staff.

ENTER ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Scrub stoves, grill grates, change foil on grill and stoves.
  • Refill soap and paper towels in all kitchens, as needed.
  • Refill chemicals in dish pit areas.
  • Wipe down walls, doors, and handles in hallways, polish stainless.
  • Clean glass inside and outside of dining room, and inside and outside kitchens.
  • Sanitize and polish doors in dining room and leading into building.
  • Clean drains.
  • Clean all hood systems.
  • Power wash racks in walk-ins.
  • Clean kitchen safety mats.
  • Clean loading dock.
  • Clean and refill deep fryer.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs in facility.
  • Sweeping, mopping and using floor cleaning machine.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

One (1) year verifiable full-time experience in restaurant or facility kitchen cleaning, related position and be physically able to handle the job responsibilities involved with the care and cleaning of the kitchen area.

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must understand, speak, and read English at a level required for successful job performance.

 

 

SALARY PLACEMENT:

  The rate is $18.75 per hour.

  • This is a temporary, hourly assignment and is not part of the classified service.  There are no fringe benefits and this position is not represented by any of the District’s collective bargaining units. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work environment includes working with machinery and/or equipment, which may produce excessive noise and exposure to chemicals and fumes; working indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather extremes. Physical demands for this position requires moderate to heavy physical labor including lifting, carrying and stacking objects up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; frequently exerting 10 to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects; standing and walking for extended periods of time, which may include climbing ladders and staircases; stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning and reaching; bending at the waist; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; vision to read computer monitor, printed material to assure proper and complete cleaning, and to read Safety Data Sheets; digit dexterity to operate equipment specific to trade, handling and working with various chemicals, materials and objects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of background fingerprint clearance, pre-employment physical abilities test (disabilities not related to the physical job will not affect the application process) and TB screening. 
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109.
  • Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member.
  • Board of Trustees approval.
  • Position is contingent upon funding and is subject to change.
  • Position is temporary, at will assignment.
