At College of the Canyons, the math course sequence for STEM majors typically begins with Math 102 (Trigonometry) or Math 104 (Precalculus), depending on your placement and background. From there, students usually progress through:

  • Math 104: Precalculus

  • Math 211: Calculus I

  • Math 212: Calculus II

  • Math 213: Calculus III

  • Math 214: Linear Algebra

  • Math 215: Differential Equations

This sequence prepares you for majors such as engineering, computer science, physics, and mathematics. It's important to meet with a counselor to determine your placement and build an educational plan that aligns with your major and transfer goals. Project SOL and STEM Counseling Services are here to support you every step of the way!

Yes, of course! Participation in other student service programs does not exclude you from being a part of the Project SOL Program.

Planning your coursework as a STEM major is crucial for a successful transfer to a UC or CSU. One of the best tools to help you is ASSIST.org — the official database that shows how courses from College of the Canyons (and other California community colleges) transfer to UC and CSU campuses for specific majors.

By using ASSIST.org, you can:

  • Identify which COC courses are equivalent to major preparation at your target university

  • See which courses are required or recommended for your major

  • Create a transfer plan that keeps you on track and avoids taking unnecessary classes

We strongly recommend meeting with a STEM counselor or a Project SOL team member to go over your ASSIST report and develop a personalized education plan that aligns with your transfer goals.

TAG stands for Transfer Admission Guarantee. It’s a program that offers guaranteed admission to participating UC campuses for eligible California community college students who meet specific requirements.

As a Project SOL student, TAG can be a powerful pathway to help you plan your transfer early and secure a spot at a UC campus like UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and others. Each campus has its own GPA and course requirements, so it’s important to work closely with a STEM counselors to ensure you're on track.

If you're interested in TAG, we’re here to guide you through the process and help you take advantage of this opportunity!
