Welcome to COUNS 110!

I look forward to getting to know you and assisting you on your career exploration journey. If you're feeling lost or unsure of your future pathway this is the perfect course for you.

I came to College of the Canyons in 2011 after spending over five years as a High School College and Guidance Counselor. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to help students on their educational journey!  When I am not helping students, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children, bike riding and going camping at the beach.

I really am excited to meet you and hope you are looking forward to a great class!

Course Description

Career & Life Planning introduces self-assessment tools to identify college majors and careers by clarifying interests, skills, abilities, values and personality type.  Students will examine the decision-making process, self-management, life roles and goal setting.  Includes a review of labor market trends, career research, interviewing skills, resume and cover letter writing and job search strategies.

What to Expect in this Course

To fully benefit from this course you are expected to participate in discussions and complete all your work on time. The goal is to create a strong learning community where everyone feels safe and comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. In order to fully participate, you will need to attend class on time, read the assigned materials, read all content posted in the weekly modules, and complete homework assignments.

This course is designed for you. Class activities and discussions will focus on behaviors, which contribute to a successful and positive college experience at College of the Canyons. It is important for you to take an active role in your learning. At first, you may find it difficult or uncomfortable to actively participate in a discussion board format and small group activities; however, it is one of the most important skills to learn in college.
