Introduction
Hello Everyone! Welcome to Career Skills at College of the Canyons!
My name is Kim Haglund, and I will be your instructor for this online course. Though I also teach English courses in the credit area, Career Skills has a special place for me. When I returned to college after being in the workforce, I would really have benefitted from these types of classes, and luckily, the price is right! Free doesn't mean cheap or subpar. You deserve a break on cost, and that's what this program does to help you reach your goals. This course, Adaptability, explores strategies for becoming more adaptable and managing stress in the modern workplace. Emphasis is placed on technological and social changes in the modern workplace, but this course can also apply to education, home life, or work life! Your objectives are:
1. Review social and technological changes in the modern workplace.
2. Explore the career skills needed in the workforce by engaging in a four-step process.
3. Experiment with different work environments, roles, and tasks
4. Identify a variety of adaptive viewpoints and suggestions for being productive in the workplace.
5. Relate strategies for managing stress in the workplace.
This course is meant for anyone who wants to learn more about being adaptable and what that means overall. How can you be more effective in the workplace when working on projects with groups who might have differing approaches, skills, or styles? Is work/life balance getting in the way of your success? How can you take classes like this and incorporate them into your daily life? I will provide all of your materials for you ! We will use a variety of instructional and collaborative methods, including videos, discussion boards, and handouts.
