Confirmed Case and Exposures

October 12, 2020

We are writing to provide notification that a member of the College of the Canyons community has been diagnosed with COVID-19. We received this information on Oct. 11.

This person was last on campus on Oct. 7 in a welding class. We have conducted contact tracing and notified those people who were in Towsley Hall and may have come in contact with the affected individual. Those individuals have been asked to self-quarantine and not come to campus for 14 days.

We understand that some people may wish to know more about this case. We are balancing the concern that people feel with the need, by law, to respect the privacy of those diagnosed with COVID-19. To that end, we can’t provide any details that would serve to identify this individual.

Per our protocols, we are notifying all employees, and also informing the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health about this positive case.

The physical areas of the campus through which the individual passed are part of our regular cleaning regimen, and have undergone thorough disinfection in keeping with our COVID-19 Containment, Response and Control Plan.

For more information about COVD-19, we encourage you to visit the CDC website and review the Frequently Asked Questions page: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html
