Introduction
WordPress is a free, open-source website and blogging creation tool that is easy to learn and is, arguably, the most popular application with the largest community support base of its kind. This short-term course in WordPress, makes web authoring accessible to all, including those without prior coding experience or web technology training.
Course Description
LECTURE: Plan a comprehensive web site and blog demonstrating effective use of WordPress themes, widgets, interactive elements, search engine optimization, and WordPress web analytics.
LAB: Construct and publish a comprehensive web site and blog demonstrating effective use of WordPress themes, widgets, interactive elements, search engine optimization, and WordPress web analytics.
What to Expect in this Course
This eight-week, 1.5-unit course introduces students to the creation of websites and blogs using WordPress, the most popular web content management system currently in use. WordPress is a template-based content management system, offering hundreds of design templates, which can be customized to some degree by the developer. Use of WordPress does not require knowledge of HTML, CSS, or scripting languages, although it can be advantageous to have basic familiarity with HTML. Interactive and backend processes can simply be implemented using WordPress widgets.
This course requires proficiency with your computer's operating system, computer file management, the Internet, a browser (especially Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer or Edge), and the ability to send e-mail. The course does not require installation of any special software. WordPress is an online application, which does not need to be installed on your computer.
