Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to Blueprint Reading for Welders/Fabricators. My name is Donna Gutierrez and I will be your Instructor for the course. We will be meeting  on the College of the Canyons Valencia campus Monday evenings from 5:30pm - 8:35pm in Towsley Hall 128. Please be advised that the college has COVID-19 precautions that all in person classes will adhere to, this means that you have to show proof of full vaccination or have a negative test result 3 days prior to attending class. You will have to check in on campus to obtain a wristband, please visit this link to see where you can check in and see each stations hours of operation. Course Description

This class will examine blueprint interpretation practices commonly used by welding and metal fabrication industries. Exposure to common drawing types, symbols, views, lines, dimensions, and tolerances. Emphasis placed on the analysis of welding symbols as approved by the American Welding Society (AWS) and International Organization of Standardization (ISO).

What to Expect in this Course

Each week will have lecture on several chapters from your text book Welding Print Reading seventh edition. Homework assignments, in class assignments, quizzes, and exams will follow lecture chapters and will all take place in class. In addition, announcements and other resources will be available on Canvas, please see this link if you need help accessing or navigating your Canvas page.

Types of Assessments

Assignments will include written Reviews Questions found at the end of each chapter in the text book, class assignments, quizzes, and exams.

  • 12" Plastic Architectural Scale or 12” plastic Mechanical Scale

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center
