Differences Between Credit and Non-Credit

Credit ESL

Fee-Based

  • Many of our credit students have academic goals, but some use our academic English program for work requirements.

  • Focus on academic English skills

  • Prepare students for success in American college classrooms
  • Ready students for transfer, 2-year degrees, and/or vocational certificate
  • Credit ESL classes give grades and students can earn credit toward an AA/AS degree or they can transfer to a university.

Non-Credit ESL

Free

  • Many of our non-credit ESL students are working on their general English.
  • Improve general English skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
  • Help with the language of daily life skills (banking, shopping)
  • Help with understanding American culture and custom
  • Builds skills for Credit classes
