WE Courses

Internship Work Experience Course: WE-186

Students may enroll in the WE-186 course for college credit for their participation in paid or unpaid internships. The WE-186 course is available for students in a program of study that requires the WE course to complete or offers the WE course as an elective. The classes are offered based on student need. In other words, you may not see the course listed in the current schedule, however, we will build one if appropriate.

The WE-186 course provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained from college courses or career exploration in an actual work setting.

WEE currently offers twenty internship courses to directly support Career Education (CE) programs at College of the Canyons. Many CE programs require or strongly recommend an internship in order to graduate.

Internships are available to everyone. Though internships are central to students following CE programs, we encourage all students to explore career paths through an internship.

Courses are offered from one to four units in fall, winter, spring and summer terms. WE-186 courses are associate degree applicable, and transfer to the CSU system as elective units.

Once you have landed an internship and submit the necessary forms, Internship staff will determine which course you are eligible for based on your program of study, how well the internship represents that program, or based on your goals. Internship staff will make the final determination and adjust your student record to clear for registration. The WE Online Orientation is required and explains the process from start to finish.

General Work Experience Course: WE-189GNR

Students wishing to use their current paid job that is unrelated to their major to earn college credit OR students participating in a paid or unpaid internship that does not relate to one of our CE work experience courses (WE-186), may register for WE-189GNR General Work Experience.

WE-189 is offered from one to four units in fall, winter, spring and summer terms. WE-189 is associate degree applicable, and transfers to the CSU system as elective units.

The course provides students with the opportunity to develop desirable work habits, attitudes and career awareness as well as potentially apply knowledge and skills gained in the area of study from college courses or career exploration in an actual work setting.

Submit the necessary forms to the Internship office and staff will adjust your student record to clear for registration. The WEE Online Orientation is required and explains the process from start to finish.
