  Adjunct Professor of Communication Studies

 

 

Scott McAfee began his professional career at age six, working as a radio/television/film actor until he retired from the biz at 25 years old. After serving three years in the California Army National Guard, Scott earned his Bachelors and Masters degree in Communication Studies from CSU Northridge in 2010. For his graduate thesis, Scott conducted ethnographic research within virtual reality constructs. His research focused on how computer mediated messages and virtual constructs enhanced the ability to affect social justice in the real world."Scotts research also examined digital communities of people with disabilities that have traditionally been silenced and oppressed in the real world--including people with autism, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress disorderand how disability identity, culture, and community is expressed in an electronic, virtual setting. Outside of the classroom, Scott serves as the Access Coordinator for College of the Canyons and assists students, faculty, and staff with issues relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. During his free time, Scott enjoys running marathons, PC gaming, and all things Star Trek.
