Valerie A. Bradford

President, NAACP Santa Clarita

Valerie Bradford is the current President of the newly established Santa Clarita Valley Branch of the NAACP, having been elected in May of 2021. A graduate of College of the Canyons with a degree in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship, she is a mother of six and grandmother of fourteen. She and her husband Charles have been residents of Santa Clarita for 17 years.

She was born in Pennsylvania and lived there for the first 13 years of her life before her family moved to Oklahoma. Valerie remembers experiencing segregation for the first time in Oklahoma City which prompted her to enter the fight for civil rights during her senior year in high school by participating in her first protest march for equal pay and health benefits in support of the city’s Black waste management workers.

In the 70’s, Valerie relocated to Southern California and began a professional career in Human Resources that spanned 24+ years and multiple industries including companies such as Warner Bros., 21st Century Insurance, and Kaiser Permanente. Valerie also found time to do what she is most passionate about: serving, so over the years she has made herself available to feed the hungry, service the homeless, and do life changing missionary work in Mexico, Haiti, and Houston.

In 2020 Valerie entered the political arena for the first time when she became the first African American to ever run for a seat on the SCV Water Board. Valerie currently leads an amazing team of professionals, committees, and 300+ members as together they work to address issues and ensure fairness, equity, and equality for people of color in Santa Clarita.
