GED preparation and test-taking skills

Designed to prepare students to pass the four sections of the General Educational Development test and build upon test-taking skills necessary to become a successful test-taker.

Course and Certificate Information

  • Certificate Description: This certificate prepares students to take the General Education Development exam.

    Course Description:

    • NC.BCSK050 – Test-Taking Skills: Addresses the skills necessary to become a successful test-taker, including test anxiety, test types, study tips, time management, and academic integrity. This course may be offered open entry/open exit.

    • NC.BCSK100 – GED Preparation: Designed to prepare students to pass the four sections of the General Educational Development test: Reading, Writing I and II (essay), Science, Social Studies and Mathematics. Students require basic computer literacy to utilize GED tutorial software. This course may be offered open entry/open exit.

    OR

    • NC.BCSK110 – GED Preparation – Math/Science: Designed to prepare students to pass the Mathematical Reasoning and Science subtests of the GED exam. Students need computer literacy and basic numeracy skills. The two noncredit arithmetic classes, MA3 and MA4, are highly recommended prior, or in addition, to this class.

    AND

    NC.BCSK120 – GED Preparation – Language Arts/Social Studies: Designed to prepare students to pass the Reasoning Through Language Arts and Social Studies subtests of the GED exam. Students need computer literacy and basic English writing skills.

  • Certificate Description: Students who receive this certificate have demonstrated mastery of skills in English and mathematics at the elementary and secondary levels.

    Course Description:

    • NC.BCSK080 – Academic Skills I: Develops basic reading, writing, and math skills through individualized, computer-assisted instruction. This course may be offered open entry/open exit.
    • NC.BCSK085 – Academic Skills II:
    Continues to develop reading, writing, and math skills through individualized, computer-assisted instruction. This course may be offered open entry-open exit.
