Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Explores the field of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, covering ultrasound history, sound physics, sonographic principles, patient care, and hospital standards. An emphasis will be placed on quality patient care, the importance of communication, ethics, stress management, professionalism, preparing students for advanced studies, and entry into Diagnostic Medical Sonography and other health professions.
NC.DMS 100 INTRODUCTION TO THE FIELD OF SONOGRAPHY 8.00 – 12.00 hours Explore a career in medical imaging by learning about the field of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The course provides students with a foundational understanding of the history and scope of ultrasound, sound physics, basic sonographic principles, the hospital environment, and patient care fundamentals tailored to diverse populations. Students will also explore accreditation standards and regulatory requirements within the field. Upon completion, students will be prepared for further study in diagnostic medical sonography.
NC.HLTH 011 HEALTH PROFESSIONS WORKFORCE SKILLS 8.00 - 12.00 hours Provides training to ensure the delivery of high-quality care in the health professions. An emphasis will be placed on communication strategies, workplace ethics and professionalism, managing stress, health profession employability skills, and self-reflection for lifelong learning and growth.
