Trevor L. Brackett, M.A.

2004

Trevor was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles where he attended Manual Arts High School, and graduated from Hollywood High School. He then attended College of the Canyons, where he played football and was an All-American Wide Receiver. Trevor eventually received a full-athletic football scholarship to the University of Nevada-Reno where he transferred in 2004. Although Trevor was a standout athlete, he believes education is the key to success for all students and student-athletes, and sports should be the second calling. He earned his Bachelor Degree from University of Nevada-Reno in 2006, Masters Degree from Fresno Pacific University in 2014. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate at San Diego State University in Educational Leadership with a concentration in community College/Post-Secondary Education and on track to receive his doctorate in Spring 2018.

Brackett is determined to make a difference in the lives of African-American students and to assure them that it doesn't matter where they come from through hard-work and dedication, he is passionate in making them believe that they too can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Trevor is currently a Counselor/Associate Professor, and Co-Director of the Umoja program at Norco College in the Riverside Community College District. 

Trevor is appreciative and acknowledges that College of the Canyons set him on the right path. Trevor added, College of the Canyons taught me discipline, dedication and showed me how to have a desire to win. This institution of higher education transformed my mind. Because of my environment, I thought the only way to be successful was from being a gang-member or drug dealer. Education taught me another way. Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook has been there for me since the beginning, and I remember all of the words in which she indicated to me in our one-on-one meeting that we had. At that time, I was still a lost former student-athlete that was trying to find my way. She assured me that I was going to be okay, and that College of the Canyons will always be my home. Most importantly, to have faith and to always reach for the stars. Thank you so much Dr. Van Hook." He is blessed with two sons, Syncere, Shakur and a daughter, Shakira Shine, along with his wife LaShanda Brackett.
