Steve Arklin

Steve Arklin received his diploma from Hart High School in the summer of 1969, and was back on campus that fall attending classes as one of the first students at College of the Canyons.

It was there that Steve met his psychology professor, Dale Smith. With Smiths inspiration, Steve wrote a list of goals for his plan to achieve a successful future. It was a punch-list, Steve says.

The combination of a teacher who ignited thought, family support, a partnership with his two brothers, and hard work were the recipe that created a thriving disposal business. Steves company operated landfills and recycling centers, employed 400 people, and sustained 30 years of service to the local communities.

Steve still has the original list of goals that he outlined in Mr. Smiths class, and it hangs in a prominent place at his home. It serves as a constant reminder that all things are possible.

Steve and his wife Diane have been supporters of the College of the Canyons, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, and a number of other organizations in the local community. He is a proud father of four children, two of whom have followed in his footsteps and are reaping the benefit of an education from College of the Canyons. Steve has a grand appreciation for COC!
