Myrna Condie

Myrna Condie is a former student who greatly benefitted from taking classes at College of the Canyons. She is a graduate of California State University at Northridge (CSUN) and has taught Advanced Sewing and Textile Science for the American College in Westwood, LA Unified Adult Schools, Santa Monica Community College and Pierce College. She has also worked in the costume department at California Institute of the Arts. In 2005 College of the Canyons named the costume shop at the new Performing Arts Center after her The Myrna R. Condie Costume Shop in recognition of her achievements.

It was in 1974 when Myrna and her husband, Gary, and their daughter moved to Valencia so their daughter could attend the best schools. Shortly thereafter, Myrna began taking a German class at College of the Canyons. This class became very beneficial as she was able to travel with her husband on a few business trips to Germany & Europe. More classes followed such as a Chemistry Class with Lab class and a Computer Class. These class credits were also transferrable to CSUN for her Bachelor's degree requirements. Myrna enjoyed sewing over the years and has made several bridal gowns, prom dresses, evening dresses and other fashions. Her style is to sit down with a client and sketch out what they want. She then creates her own pattern from the sketch and makes the dress. One year a winner at the Emmy Awards wore a gown created by Myrna.

Myrna has battled health problems her whole life. Two open heart surgeries, several electro-cardio conversions and eight heart pacemaker surgeries as a result of multiple congenital heart defects. However, this has not stopped her from developing her talents, earning a college degree, raising a family with foster children and serving in the community in many different ways.
