Diane Ayres

Diane is a revered retired English Professor of College of the Canyons. She earned her AA in General Studies at College of the Canyons and went on to earn both her BA and MA in Speech Communication from California State University, Northridge. She began her teaching career as a part-time instructor at COC and at CSUN in 1979. While at COC, she taught a variety of Writing Skills, English Composition and Literature and Oral Communications courses. During her 34 years on campus, Diane was involved in mentoring students through her involvement in numerous on-campus clubs such as: Alpha Gamma Sigma, PACE, Canyon Call, Consortium Teaching Abroad (English), Republican Club Advisor, and Junior League Womans Club. Her love of education and teaching is evident in the many honors she has received. Her awards include, Outstanding Young Women in America 1982, Tutor Service Award, Who's Who Among America's Teachers 1996, and Bank of America Contest Award. Diane also served her community through her time spent with the Child and Family board. Diane continues to be a devoted supporter of College of the Canyons. She supports scholarships and established a Humanities Scholarship upon her retirement. Recently she has become one of the participants in the naming of the Sweets Kitchen in the new Institute for Culinary Education. She has shown her passion supporting the college through playing in and sponsoring several COC Foundation golf tournaments. Diane is a valued alumna and real benefactor to the college and its students. Diane retired in 2012 after 24 years as a full-time professor. In retirement she enjoys spending time with her husband of 44 years, Bob, her children, Rob and Ashley and her grandchildren, Jon, Laine and Abigail. She loves outdoor activities, traveling and golf.
